Minami-Shinagawa Chabako

A Japanese tea cafe set in a renovated traditional home on the Old Tokaido, preserving the atmosphere of the Edo period.

Last update :

Minami-Shinagawa once flourished as a post town on the Old Tokaido during the Edo period, and its charming streetscape still remains today. This Japanese tea specialty cafe opened in December 2018 with the concept of “an Old Tokaido tea house for today.”

Housed in an old row house along the Old Tokaido, the cafe serves carefully selected sencha and matcha, with a focus on teas from Shizuoka and Kyoto. A standout favorite is “Fukamushi-cha” (deep-steamed tea) from Kakegawa, Shizuoka, served in thoughtfully chosen teapots and tea ware. Gyokuro from Uji, Kyoto is also popular. Original wagashi made by a skilled wagashi artisan are another highlight. The signature Lemon Daifuku combines white bean paste kneaded with finely grated lemon peel and cream cheese for a subtly Western-style taste. Seasonal items also appear, such as strawberry daifuku in spring and shaved ice in summer.
