Jokoji Temple and Jokoji Park

Jokoji Temple, a Rinzai Zen temple of the Myoshinji school, was established in 1336. The temple's “Muiden” main hall was built in the late Muromachi period while the "Genkeiko-byo” mausoleum of Tokugawa Yoshinao, the first lord of the Owari Domain and the ninth son of Tokugawa Ieyasu, are both designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan.

Book a visit in spring when Jokoji Park goes all awash with the coveted blooms of Somei Yoshino cherry trees around Shoden Pond, complete with hexagon-shaped pavilion. In autumn, the park remains a cherished destination for its stunning autumn foliage, especially within the temple grounds where the historic buildings and vibrant leaves create a spectacular scene. Just next door to the temple awaits an observation deck, known as a popular night view spot for its swooping views out over the surrounding autumn-colored mountains and the distant Nagoya cityscape.

Situated within the Aichi Kogen Quasi-National Park, this area offers rich natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for walking and picnicking. Despite being located near Nagoya, it provides a peaceful environment surrounded by lush nature.
