Osakaya “Niigata Specialty Sweet, Bandai Daiko”
A baked sweet with soft cookie dough that has sold over 200 million pieces in total and continues to be loved in Niigata.
Founded in 1858, Osakaya has been making sweets in Niigata for over 160 years. Its signature product, “Niigata Specialty Sweet, Bandai Daiko,” is a long-selling baked treat first released in 1969, made by filling ring-pattern soft cookie dough with cream. The name comes from Bandai Bridge, the symbol of Niigata City, and Bandai Daiko, a local performing art. It has long been loved as a classic Niigata souvenir. Total sales have reached Approx. 200 million pieces.
It has an excellent balance of textures, crisp on the outside and moist on the inside, while the not-too-sweet cream pairs perfectly with the dough. In addition to the year-round plain flavor, a seasonal version made with Niigata-grown Le Lectier pear also appears for a limited time. The package features illustrations inspired by the fireworks of the Niigata Festival and Bandai Daiko, making its distinctly Niigata design perfect for a souvenir.
