Himakajima Higashihama Beach (Sunrise Beach)

Located on Himakajima, a remote island in Minamichita, Chita District, Aichi Prefecture, Higashihama Beach, known as "Sunrise Beach," is accessible in Approx. 10 minutes by high-speed ferry from Morozaki Port. It got its name from the unobstructed view of the sunrise directly ahead, and the calm shoreline stretching along the island’s eastern tip is also called “the original landscape of Himakajima.”

The beach is open for swimming every July and August. Stretching Approx. 300 m long and Approx. 70 m deep, this shallow beach is safe even for families with small children. During the summer vacation season, kids can also try a range of activities through the “Kids Adventure” program. Options include “Crab Fishing” with bamboo rods, a “Snorkeling School,” and the nighttime “Beach Fire” program, among many others designed to spark children’s curiosity.

Himakajima is known for its octopus and tiger pufferfish, and enjoying fresh local seafood is one of the pleasures of visiting. On a nearby hill, you’ll also find the scenic “Lovers’ Swing.” From watching the sunrise over the horizon and enjoying local gourmet food to strolling around the island and moving over to Nishihama for sunset views, it’s a great place to spend a relaxing day.
