Koganeyu (Sumida City, Tokyo)

A DJ booth and a bar, too! A downtown bathhouse where you can experience a new way to enjoy a sento.

Founded in 1932 and fully renovated in 2020, this innovative sento bathhouse brings a fresh way to enjoy a traditional public bath to Tokyo’s old downtown.

The bathwater is ultra-soft water, made by pumping up soft groundwater and further filtering it through a water softener, giving it a gentle, smooth feel on the skin. Several bath temperatures are available, so everyone from children to lovers of very hot baths can enjoy a soak to the fullest.
Soak while gazing at a Mt. Fuji mural by manga artist Yoriko Hoshi, and you are sure to feel warmed to your core.

There are also separate saunas for men and women. The men’s bath features an auto loyly sauna made with Japanese hiba wood and bakuhanseki stone. It is designed to help you work up a proper sweat with its heat and humidity. In front of the sauna is a large, cold bath exclusively for sauna users, with a depth of 90 cm.
The women’s bath has a sauna where you can enjoy self-service loyly using aroma water that changes daily. Though compact, it offers solid heat and humidity. (Men’s and women’s baths are switched on Wednesdays only.)

At the front desk area, unusually for a sento, there is a DJ booth and a beer bar, so you can enjoy a bath while listening to records. The beer bar also serves the house-brewed craft beer “BATHE Beer.”
With tasty beer and house-made non-alcoholic drinks, you can take your time and relax after your bath.
