THE SUMO HALL HIRAKUZA OSAKA
Japan’s national sport becomes entertainment! A new-style show hall where you can experience the excitement of sumo.
More than just a sport or martial art, grand sumo is Japan’s national sport and is also hugely popular overseas. At this show hall, you can fully experience the appeal of Japanese culture through sumo.
There are two programs: the “Sumo Show” and the “Sumo Workshop Experience.” In the “Sumo Show,” former professional sumo wrestlers put on an entertainment show. Right before your eyes, you’ll see a wide variety of acts, including the mythological origins of sumo, a comedic introduction to the rules, and powerful matches.
Held irregularly mainly on Sundays, the “Sumo Workshop Experience” lets you step onto the dohyō stage yourself and try sumo training with direct instruction from wrestlers. Both programs also include a chance for selected participants to face off with a wrestler, plus a commemorative photo after the show—sure to become a memorable part of your trip. The entire performance is conducted in English, so you can gain a deeper understanding of the world of sumo.
You can also try traditional Japanese food culture. The “Sumo Show” includes a makunouchi bento, while the “Sumo Workshop Experience” serves chanko nabe, the hot pot sumo wrestlers eat at sumo stables. The makunouchi bento can also be switched to a vegan or halal option.
