Tendo Park

Located in central Tendo City, Yamagata Prefecture, this relaxing park is beloved by locals as a symbol of the city. From the observation plaza on the summit of Mt. Maizuru, Approx. 240m above sea level, you can enjoy sweeping views of Mt. Gassan, the Asahi mountain range, the Mogami River, and more.

Known as a famous cherry blossom spot, the park is filled with Approx. 2,000 blooming cherry trees in spring. Every year in mid-April, it hosts the Tendo Cherry Blossom Festival, “Human Shogi.” Set against cherry blossom-covered Mt. Maizuru, this major event features warriors and attendants dressed in armor and kimono acting as shogi pieces in a match.

The park also features seasonal flowers such as azaleas, hydrangeas, irises, red spider lilies, and maple leaves, creating a fresh new landscape every time you visit.

The park is equipped with a waterside area around Atago Pond and a barbecue area. There is also a walking course that takes from 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, and from April to November, health walking programs incorporating Germany’s climatic terrain cure are also held.
