Iejima Island

Floating in the sea west of the Motobu Peninsula on Okinawa Main Island, Iejima Island is a small island with a circumference of Approx. 22 km. It takes Approx. 30 minutes by ferry from Motobu Port, making it a popular remote island destination for easy day trips.

Gusukuyama, one of the Okinawa Eight Views, is the island’s symbol and was long used as a landmark for navigation. The view from the summit is spectacular, and at 172 m above sea level, it is an easy climb. The island also offers plenty to see, including Wajii, where spring water bubbles up from the shoreline below steep cliffs, and Nyatiya Cave, home to a sacred stone said to bring children to women who can lift it.

The island is also packed with marine activities, including diving in its beautiful sea, swimming at white-sand beaches, and fishing. You can also circle the island by rental bicycle while sightseeing or enjoy horseback riding with beach views, so there are many ways to spend your time here. Every year from late April through Golden Week, many visitors come for the Iejima Lily Festival, where Teppou lilies and 100 varieties of lilies from around the world bloom across the venue.
