Higashizawa Bridge
Set against the natural beauty of the gorge, this striking red bridge is one of the standout scenic spots for a Yatsugatake drive.
The Yatsugatake Kogen Line runs east to west, linking Kiyosato and Kobuchizawa. A popular scenic drive, it passes forests dotted with ranches and grasslands, offering idyllic countryside views. Spanning the Higashizawa branch of the Kawamatagawa Gorge, Higashizawa Bridge is often visited along with nearby spots such as Seisenryo and Yamanashi Prefectural Makiba Park. Known as the "Red Bridge," this arch bridge is Approx. 90 meters long and Approx. 49 meters high.
With Yatsugatake in the background, the vivid red bridge stands out beautifully and is one of the route's most popular scenic spots. It is especially beautiful during the fresh greenery of spring and the fall foliage season, and many people enjoy taking photos or sketching from the observation deck on the east side of the bridge. The autumn leaves seen from the bridge are also a must-see, with the gorge below feeling as if it is rushing toward you. In addition, a walking trail of Approx. 2.8 km runs along the gorge downstream from the bridge to the area near Doryu Falls, where you can enjoy trekking while viewing giant rocks, unusual rock formations, and waterfalls.
Higashizawa Bridge is currently undergoing repair work. Because the exterior of the bridge is covered with sheeting during construction, half of the bridge will not be visible until August 31, 2026.
