Goto Islands (Shimo-Goto Area)
The Goto Islands consist of around 150 islands, known for their beautiful blue seas, white sandy beaches, and historic church buildings registered as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites. Visitors to the Shimo-Goto area, will famed the famed Hisaka and Naru islands, plus several sites that were inscribed in 2018 as part of the “Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region.” Notable landmarks include the Former Gorin Church and Egami Church, both deeply connected to the history of the Hidden Christians who kept their faith alive through difficult times.
The ocean here is unbelievably blue—it just makes you go quiet for a moment. Compared to Okinawa, this place feels less touristy and has more of a local vibe, which honestly makes it even more charming.
