JR Yokohama Tower

The JR Yokohama Tower, which opened in June 2020, is a new landmark in Yokohama, with 26 floors above ground and a height of 132.253 m. It is directly connected to JR Yokohama Station. It is a complex consisting of commercial floors "NEWoMan Yokohama" and "CIAL Yokohama" with stores and restaurants; the cinema complex "T-Joy Yokohama”; and office floors.

These two huge shopping malls just opened, including NEWoMan. There are hotels and restaurants, so you can go straight from the station to your hotel, drop off your bags, and head downstairs to shop and eat!

Michi-no-Eki Hachioji Takiyama

The only Michi-no-Eki in Tokyo sells vegetables and other products grown in Hachioji. It has a direct sales shop, a specialty store, a restaurant, and a café, and is used not only by tourists but also by local visitor.

Kyo Karakami Experience Karamaru

“Kyo Karakami” is traditional Japanese paper printed by handpalm using blended paints including called kira (mica), gofun (Chinese white), funori (glue made of alga), moss, and some pigments on a woodblock sculptured historical pattern. Those papers were used for writing poetry and are recently used for making Fusuma or walls in a house, shrine, temple, tea ceremony room.

Suntory Museum of Art

In 1961, then president of Suntory, Keizo Saji, opened the Suntory Museum of Art in Marunouchi. It was moved into the Suntory Building in Akasaka in 1975, then in 2007, the architect Kengo Kuma redesigned it and moved to the current “Tokyo Midtown.” Using a generous amount of Japanese materials such as wood and Japanese paper, it was turned into a relaxing modern Japanese space with natural warmth.

The Suntory Museum of Art has special exhibitions featuring paintings, ceramics, lacquerware, and glass art. It really brings the beauty of everyday life to everyone.

Gakushi-kaikan

A retro-modern design pavilion located in Kanda, Tokyo. It was constructed as a meeting ground for the “Gakushi-kai”, a group of alumni from the former imperial university. It is currently open to the public. The complex is used as a party hall, wedding hall, hotel, restaurant, and bar.

The Shoto Museum of Art

This museum was designed by architect Seiichi Shirai in his last year. He was known as the “Philosophical Architect” and worked during the Showa period. The front of the museum features a design dubbed by rubellite by Shirai. It features a slightly-pink hued stone exterior wall that bends. It is accented by a golden door, creating a dramatic effect.

Tokyo International Forum

Located close to Tokyo Station, Japan’s largest convention and art center stands. As a place for international cultural exchange, it was built in 1997 on the ground of the former Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.

Northern Wild Plants Garden

Located in Arashiyama Park at the confluence of the Ishikari River and the Osarappe River, the Northern Wild Plants Garden is one of the most extensive northern wild plants gardens in Japan, with approximately 650 plant species growing in this area. It is a forest composed mainly of broad-leaved trees, which is rare in the suburbs of a city and has retained its primitive appearance.

Higashi-Yamate No-12 Building

This national important cultural heritage is located in Higashi-Yamate, where foreigners had their residence throughout the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period. This building is a definitive example of the origins of Western architecture in Japan. Visitors can see various original architectural styles within the premises.

This is the oldest existing building in Higashi-Yamate, and it used to be the Russian consulate too! When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, you can really enjoy the contrast between the flowers and the building. ❤️

I made an Okinawan shisa here... They also have other things like Ryukyu glass, candles, music boxes, and glass beads. You get to take your finished piece home. Totally worth recommending!
