Hitoyoshi Railway Museum MOZOCA Station 868
Right in front of Hitoyoshi Station, a journey into the dreams and history of railways gets ready to depart!
Supervised by designer Eiji Mitooka, known for creating some of Japan’s most talked-about sightseeing trains, this railway museum lets visitors learn about the history and features of the JR Hisatsu Line, a railway route connecting Yatsushiro City in Kumamoto Prefecture and Kirishima City in Kagoshima Prefecture.
Inside, you’ll find a wide range of exhibits, including photo materials with easy-to-understand explanations, the headmark of SL Hitoyoshi, and actual railway parts and signs once used on the line. With dioramas and video displays, the museum offers plenty to see for railway fans and first-time visitors alike.
The popular Mini Train is, just as the name suggests, a miniature steam locomotive-style attraction. Watching it race along the track from the indoor starting point, Mozoka Station, out to the outdoor final stop, Mozoka Hitoyoshi Station, while puffing smoke, is an impressive sight.
After exploring every floor, including the first and second floors and the rooftop, pick up a souvenir at the museum shop, which carries railway goods related to the Hisatsu Line.
