Opened in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture, in 2022, Unagi Kohinata is a specialty eel restaurant serving Kanto-style softly steamed and grilled eel at reasonable prices. The restaurant carefully selects thick, meaty eel about 1.5 times larger than usual, with the eel’s natural flavor and rich fat.

Its unaju, grilled eel over rice, is made with a special sauce developed jointly with a long-established soy sauce brewery. Paired perfectly with white rice, it is a dish with a light taste while still offering both sweetness and savory depth. The menu also includes reservation-only dishes such as eel and salmon roe over rice and eel and sea urchin over rice, letting you enjoy eel together with seafood (reservations required at least 2 days in advance for all of them).

The interior has a warm Japanese-style atmosphere. In addition to tables for four, counter seats are available, making it easy to stop by even on your own. Takeout items such as grilled eel rice balls, eel liver skewers, and eel skewers are also sold at the storefront. Parking is available, so you can come by car as well. It is a spot you will want to visit while strolling around Koedo, Kawagoe.
